House Noordhoek

Holloway and Davel Architects were tasked with managing the renovation of this contemporary family home that would meld sympathetically with the landscape and the ethos of Lake Michelle and its famous eco system. Lake Michelle is surrounded by beautiful water channels and bird life.

The house is centred around an open courtyard with koi pond, a location that enables uninterrupted views of Lake Michelle’s delicate eco system to the rear. Off this courtyard the internal circulation links the entrance with the open-plan living / kitchen area and the bedrooms at the end of the composition. All bedrooms are en suite and situated in the most private areas of the home.

Aesthetically, this is a modern interpretation of vernacular with grey muted plastered walls and a slate roof finish. The build also features a modern take on traditional chimneys.

The client’s wish for a contemporary, minimalist style was largely achieved through the colour scheme of white for the interior walls and joinery. Living areas were opened up and an existing pool was replaced with new.
